Black Eyed Peas Biography
In the 1980s when Hip-Hop hit mainstream, it contained positive messages complete with a focus on performance. This became overshadowed with the introduction of “Gangsta Rap” in the early 1990s. The Black Eyed Peas, however, have stuck with the tradition. The Black Eyed Peas have been compared to groups such as Jurassic 5, Roots, and Black Star. The history of the Black Eyed Peas stems back to the late 1980s. Will I. Am met Apl.de.Ap in eight grade when the two were a part of a break dancing club. They began performing together in LA under the name of Atban Klann. In 1995, Taboo joined the group and they changed their names to the Black Eyed Peas. They soon after signed a deal with Interscope Records. The Black Eyed Peas debut, Behind the Front, was released in 1998. The album surprised critics due to the fact a live band performed
in the background. Macy Gray was also featured on the album. The Black Eyed Peas sophomore album was Bridging the Gap. The group is now currently touring on the Justified and Stripped tour. Their single, “Where is the Love?” is doing very well.
